2021 Federal Tax Filing Deadline Extension

In response to the ongoing pandemic-related strain placed on taxpayers, and the added complexities tax preparers are navigating due to various economic relief measures, the Treasury Department and Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has announced that they have extended the April 15, 2021 federal tax filing deadline for individual tax returns to May 17, 2021.

At this time, the deadline for estimate payments has not changed from April 15, nor has the deadline been extended for other return types (calendar year C-corp returns, trust/estate/gift tax returns). However, we expect more guidance surrounding the deadline extension in the coming days.

PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR TAX INFORMATION AS SOON AS POSSIBLE

At HBE, we remain committed to providing timely tax services that you can trust and rely on. However, as noted above, the added complexities of the economic stimulus payments, PPP loans, Employee Retention Credit, and other relief measures will impact our ability to finalize returns as quickly as we have done in previous years. Therefore, it is in your best interest to submit the information that is necessary to prepare your tax return(s) as soon as possible.

Please submit any information you may have in hand now, even if there is additional information you are still waiting on. We will not be able to assure timely finalization for information received after March 24, 2021.

HOW TO SUBMIT YOUR TAX INFORMATION
(including your signed Form 8879)

If you have not yet submitted your tax information to our office, you can do so in one of the following ways:

  • Online
    • From the menu at the top of our website, you can submit the following documents:
      • Client Documents: Select “Send Files” then click “Client Documents.”
      • Signed Form 8879: “Send Files” then click “Form 8879.”
  • Email
  • Fax. Information can be faxed to our office at (402) 423-4346.
  • Mail. As always, you are welcome to mail your information to our offices.
  • Drop off
    • Drop boxes are available within the entrance of each of our office locations for clients to use to deliver their information. Given the continued virus prevention guidelines, dropping off and picking up information is the least preferred method for transmitting your documents.

WE WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE UPDATES

At this time, individual states have not announced corresponding deadline extensions. However, we will continue to closely monitor developments and provide updates as they become available.
